Espresso Stained with a Spoonful of Milk Foam
3 ingredients
5 steps
What you need
- 30 ml (1 oz) freshly brewed espresso, one single shot
- 60 ml (1/4 cup) cold whole milk, enough to foam properly
- 1 tsp sugar, optional
Method
Restated from the original video
- 1
Warm a small espresso cup with hot water, then empty it.
- 2
Pour the milk into a small jug. Steam it with the wand until it is warm and forms a thick, dense foam, 10-15 sec. Without a steam wand, heat the milk until it steams, pour it into a jar no more than a third full, close it and shake hard for 30 sec.
- 3
Brew a single shot of espresso straight into the cup.
- 4
Stir in the sugar if using.
- 5
Hold back the liquid milk with a spoon and ladle 1-2 tbsp of foam onto the middle of the espresso, so it leaves a pale spot. Serve right away.
