8 steps
What you need
- 8 slices bacon, about 200 g (7 oz)
- 1 head of iceberg lettuce, about 600 g (1 1/4 lb), shredded
- 3 stalks celery, thinly sliced
- 1 red onion, thinly sliced
- 300 g (10 oz) frozen peas, thawed and patted dry
- 240 g (1 cup) mayonnaise
- 1 tbsp sugar
- 1/2 tsp black pepper, freshly ground
- 200 g (7 oz) cheddar, shredded
Method
Restated from the original video
- 1
Cook the bacon in a skillet over medium heat, turning now and then, until crisp, 8-10 min. Drain on paper towels, cool and crumble.
- 2
Stir the sugar and pepper into the mayonnaise.
- 3
Dry the shredded lettuce well, then spread it in the bottom of a 3 l (3 qt) glass bowl.
- 4
Layer the celery, then the onion, then the peas over the lettuce.
- 5
Spread the mayonnaise over the peas, all the way to the glass, so it seals the vegetables underneath.
- 6
Cover with the cheddar, then the bacon.
- 7
Cover and chill for at least 1 h, or overnight.
- 8
Serve with a large spoon that reaches the bottom, so each portion has every layer.
