A fried plate of eggs, bacon, sausage, black pudding and mushrooms, often with baked beans and toast, served together on one plate rather than as courses.
Where it comes from
Rooted in substantial breakfasts eaten before a full day of physical labor, later formalized as standard hotel and guesthouse fare meant to carry a guest through to evening without another proper meal.
What cooks argue about
Cooking everything in the fat left behind by the bacon and sausage is traditional and gives the most flavor, though it means timing several components to finish together, eggs started last since they overcook fastest.
