Piña Colada
White rum, coconut cream, and pineapple juice are blended with ice into a thick, cold drink, often served in a hollowed pineapple or tall glass.
Where it comes from
The pina colada is credited to bartenders in San Juan, Puerto Rico, in the 1950s and 1960s, though which bar first served it is still argued over by more than one hotel bar.
What cooks argue about
Cooks argue over blending versus shaking: blended with ice gives the classic slushy texture, while shaken over ice keeps the drink thinner and less diluted.
