3 ingredients
8 steps
What you need
- 4 slices white sandwich bread
- 100 g (3.5 oz) cheddar, sliced, or 4 slices American cheese
- 2 tbsp butter, softened
Method
Restated from the original video
- 1
Leave the butter at room temperature until soft enough to spread.
- 2
Spread one side of each slice of bread thinly with butter, right out to the edges.
- 3
Lay 2 slices buttered side down and cover them with the cheddar, keeping it just inside the crust.
- 4
Close with the other 2 slices, buttered side up.
- 5
Heat a heavy frying pan over medium-low heat for 2 min.
- 6
Cook the sandwiches until the underside is deep golden, 3-4 min, pressing down lightly once with a spatula.
- 7
Flip and cook until the second side is golden and the cheese has melted all the way through, 3-4 min. If the cheese is slow, cover the pan for the last minute.
- 8
Rest for 1 min, then cut in half on the diagonal and serve hot.
