7 ingredients
7 steps
What you need
- 4 slices thick-cut white bread, about 2 cm (3/4 in) thick, or 8 thin slices
- 4 tbsp peanut butter, smooth
- 2 large eggs
- 2 tbsp milk
- 300 ml (1 1/4 cups) peanut oil, or another neutral oil, for frying
- 2 tsp butter
- 3 tbsp sweetened condensed milk, or golden syrup
Method
Restated from the original video
- 1
Trim the crusts from the bread. Spread peanut butter over 2 slices and cover each with a second slice to make 2 sandwiches. With thin bread, stack 4 slices per sandwich with peanut butter between.
- 2
Whisk the eggs and milk in a shallow dish until smooth.
- 3
Pour the oil into a wide, deep frying pan to a depth of about 1 cm (1/2 in). Heat to 160 °C (325 °F), then reduce to medium-low.
- 4
Press one sandwich into the egg for about 10 seconds per side, so the bread soaks it up but does not fall apart. Lift it out and let the excess drip off.
- 5
Lay it gently in the oil. Fry, turning once, until deep golden on both sides, 2-3 min per side. Spoon oil over the top as it cooks.
- 6
Drain on a rack or paper towels. Repeat with the second sandwich.
- 7
Top each sandwich with a teaspoon of butter and pour the condensed milk over. Serve hot, cut in half.
