Takeout-Style Pineapple Sweet and Sour Dipping Sauce
6 ingredients
7 steps
What you need
- 240 ml (1 cup) pineapple juice
- 80 ml (1/3 cup) rice vinegar
- 100 g (1/2 cup) granulated sugar
- 4 tbsp ketchup
- 1 tbsp light soy sauce
- 2 tbsp cornstarch
Method
Restated from the original video
- 1
Stir the cornstarch with 3 tbsp of cold water in a small cup until completely smooth.
- 2
Combine the pineapple juice, rice vinegar, sugar, ketchup and soy sauce in a small saucepan.
- 3
Set the pan over medium heat and stir until the sugar dissolves. Bring to a gentle simmer, 3-4 min.
- 4
Stir the cornstarch mixture again, since the cornstarch settles fast, then pour it in while whisking.
- 5
Simmer for 1-2 min, whisking, until the sauce turns glossy and coats the back of a spoon.
- 6
Taste. A splash more rice vinegar makes it sharper, a spoonful more sugar makes it sweeter.
- 7
Serve warm or at room temperature for dipping or tossing with fried foods. The sauce thickens as it cools.
