7 ingredients
7 steps
What you need
- 500 ml (2 cups) whole milk, or an unsweetened plant milk
- 1 tsp ground turmeric
- 1 cinnamon stick
- 2 green cardamom pods, lightly crushed
- 1 cm (1/2 in) fresh ginger, peeled and thinly sliced
- 1 pinch black pepper, freshly ground
- 1 tsp honey, or to taste
Method
Restated from the original video
- 1
Pour the milk into a small saucepan and whisk in the turmeric until no lumps remain.
- 2
Add the cinnamon stick, cardamom, ginger and black pepper.
- 3
Warm over low heat until small bubbles form at the edges and steam rises. Do not let it boil, or the milk will form a skin and may scorch.
- 4
Keep it just below a simmer for 8-10 min, whisking now and then, until the milk is deep gold and smells of spice.
- 5
Remove from the heat and stir in the honey.
- 6
Pour through a fine sieve into two mugs. For a foamy latte, froth the strained milk with a whisk or milk frother first.
- 7
Serve hot. To drink it cold, let it cool, then pour over ice.
