Katsu Curry

A fried, breaded pork cutlet served over rice with Japanese curry sauce poured alongside or directly over it.

Where it comes from

Katsu curry pairs two separately imported dishes, breaded cutlets adapted from European cutlets and curry rice adapted from British curry, and the pairing became a standard Japanese diner meal in the 20th century.

What cooks argue about

Cooks argue over pouring the curry directly over the cutlet, which softens the crust for flavor, versus serving the sauce alongside so the panko coating stays crisp until eaten.

Versions

Nobody has published a katsu curry here yet. When somebody cooks one from a video and publishes it, their version appears in this list, with a link back to the original.
