5 ingredients
7 steps
What you need
- 1 l (4 cups) water
- 20 g (3/4 oz) fresh ginger, scraped clean, sliced and bruised
- 1 cinnamon stick, broken into pieces
- 4 whole cloves
- 120 g (1/3 cup) honey, plus more to taste
Method
Restated from the original video
- 1
Scrape the skin off the ginger with the back of a knife rather than peeling it, so the flavor stays in. Slice the ginger and crush it lightly with the flat of the knife.
- 2
Put the water, ginger, cinnamon and cloves in a heavy pot and bring to a boil.
- 3
Lower the heat, cover and simmer for 10 min.
- 4
Take the pot off the heat, keep it covered and let the spices steep for 15 min.
- 5
Strain into a clean pot and warm it until steaming, without letting it boil.
- 6
Stir in the honey until dissolved. Taste and add more if you want it sweeter, or stir a spoonful into each mug instead.
- 7
Serve hot in mugs.
