Method
Restated from the original video
- 1
Heat the oven to 180 °C (350 °F) and butter a baking dish of about 1.5 l (1 1/2 quarts).
- 2
Cut the crusts off the bread, spread one side of each slice with butter and cut each slice into 2 triangles.
- 3
Lay half the triangles in the dish, buttered side up and overlapping, and scatter over half the sultanas.
- 4
Add the remaining bread in the same way and finish with the rest of the sultanas.
- 5
Beat the eggs in a jug, then whisk in the milk, sugar and vanilla.
- 6
Pour the custard evenly over the bread and press the slices down so they soak it up.
- 7
Leave to stand for 10 min, then sprinkle the nutmeg over the top.
- 8
Bake until puffed, golden on top and just set in the middle, 35-40 min.
- 9
Rest for 5 min before serving warm.
