What you need

- 500 ml (2 cups) vodka, good quality, 40% ABV
Method
Restated from the original video
- 1
Sort the cherries, discard any soft or moldy ones, then rinse and drain well.
- 2
Fill a clean 1.5 l jar with the cherries without pressing them down.
- 3
Pour the sugar over the cherries, then add the vodka.
- 4
Close the jar and shake it. Shake once a day for the first few days, until the sugar has dissolved.
- 5
Store in a dark place at room temperature for 4-6 weeks. The cherries release their juice and the liquid turns deep red.
- 6
Strain through a fine sieve into a bottle, pressing the cherries lightly. Do not leave the pits in the liquor for longer than 2 months.
- 7
Taste and stir in a spoonful more sugar if it is too sharp. Let it rest 1 week.
- 8
Serve chilled in small glasses. The boozy cherries can be eaten or used in desserts.
