Orange Chicken
Fried chicken thigh pieces tossed in a sweet, citrusy, faintly spicy sauce built on orange juice and zest.
Where it comes from
Orange chicken was popularized in the United States by Panda Express, where chef Andy Kao developed it in 1987, drawing on Hunanese sweet and spicy orange peel chicken traditions.
What cooks argue about
Cooks argue over fresh orange zest and juice versus bottled concentrate, and over frying the chicken twice, since a second fry keeps the coating crisp once the sticky sauce goes on.
Nobody has published a orange chicken recipe yet. The page stays out of search until one exists, which is the rule for every thin page here.
